10 Wedding Tips You Didn’t Know You Needed
Ask your photographer to capture your decor before guests arrive.
Make sure someone photographs centerpieces, guest tables, ceremony setup, cake, welcome signs, and place settings. You’ve spent months planning every detail, but it can be hard to find time to appreciate it on the big day. Having these pictures will help you remember the untouched beauty and hard work that you put into this special event.
Ask your officiant (ahead of time) to step aside for your first kiss.
Otherwise… your officiant will be in the background of one of your most important photos. We love the officiants, but nobody loves awkward photos or having to do major photoshops. Make sure to take a picture after the ceremony with your officiant, though!
Make sure someone knows how to bustle your dress.
You often won’t be able to do it yourself. Have someone practice ahead of time to make transitions smoother. I recommend designating someone who will be close to you at all times on your wedding day. It can be your mother, maid of honor, or even your wedding planner.
Always plan for the weather.
It sounds obvious, but being prepared no matter the weather can make or break a wedding. Have blankets if it’s cold. Parasols and water bottles if it’s sunny. Bug spray if it’s outdoors. Umbrellas if there is even a slight chance of rain. SPF makeup foundation is a must in the summer.
Plan your exit strategy.
This isn’t just how you leave or where you go after the wedding… It’s also: Who takes gifts? Who takes decor? Who takes leftover food? Who packs personal items? Who returns rentals? Don’t leave these questions until the last minute. You want to relax and unwind after your wedding, not make more decisions.
Create a family photo list.
Don’t rely on memory. Write a list of the people you need to take photos with and give it to your photographer beforehand. Bride + Parents, Bride + Siblings, Groom + Grandparents, entire family, etc. Photos will go much faster, and nobody will be forgotten.
Remember to be a guest at your own wedding.
Take five minutes, just the two of you. Look around. Watch everyone enjoying themselves. Those quiet moments can become some of the most cherished memories.
Test your ceremony seating
Sit in the back row. Can you see? Can you hear? Is the sun in your eyes? You may have to do some last-minute adjustments before everyone arrives.
Double-check spelling on EVERYTHING.
Invitations, programs, website, thank-you’s, etc. You don’t want to look back later and facepalm. Even better, have someone else proofread your spelling (Like your wedding planner!)
Bring snacks.
To your hair appointment, the bridal suite, etc. You will need food before you walk down the aisle. You might not have too much time during cocktail hour or the reception, so it’s important to make sure you have some energy to dance the night away.
